Dead Hedging

For our May Volunteer Action Day we met up to put in a dead hedge along part of Copgrove Road by an informal entrance to the wood. This consisted of stakes driven into the ground about 2 metres apart in a one metre wide double row. This was then filled with dead branches and twigs picked up from within the wood to form a barrier and a haven for wildlife. We were helped by Louise, a council ranger, who provided rammers to put the stakes in and made sure it all went well. We also moved several logs to make the entrance less inviting for motorbikes and quad bikes which are an issue in the wood.
