Summer Party 2026

The Friends of Gipton Wood Summer Party was held on Saturday 5th September, with over 100 people getting involved in the activities in the Wood.

This year, we were very pleased to invite Kate from Bee Inspired to tell us about all things bee-related (with her demonstration beehive on hand!) and give us the opportunity to make beeswax candles. It was a fantastic experience for the children who really enjoyed it. The honey was wonderful too!! A big thank you to Kate for providing a different, informative and fun activity for us all to enjoy, and we hope to have Kate back with us for more bee fun in the Spring.

We had a number of woodland craft activities going on too, with the opportunity to make craft bees, build dens, make magic wands and more. Courtesy of the latest polystyrene fly-tip we also had our very own nurdle hunt, with lots of kids taking up the challenge to collect 100 nurdles!

The barbecue providing meat or vegan hot dogs was a popular spot, as was the cake and coffee stall, with wonderful tasty cakes for all to enjoy. A shout out to the cooks who provided these. We were also pleased to welcome Kajal, who came to sell her delicious samosas, pakoras and other goodies to those attending.

A bring and share stall offered a wide range of goods, many plants and bulbs as well as tomatoes and other garden produce and is becoming a recurring and popular feature of our community events. Thanks to everyone who contributed items for people to take away.

We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who made donations at the Summer Party. A total of £227 was raised at the event which allows us to continue our conservation and community activities in the Wood.

Our next Rhythm of Nature event is our Winter Wreath Workshop on the first Saturday in December, 10:30-12:30.
